baguettes!

There is delicious bread in Paris. You can find baguettes everywhere! Restaurants will serve a little basket of bread with every meal. We bought bread, cheese and wine to keep at the apartment, to snack on post-museum and pre-dinner. Yum!!

Since we got back, I've tried several times to make french bread. The first two attempts resulted in yummy bread, but they were definitely not baguette-like. The third time was a charm.

I used this recipe from King Arthur Flour, instant yeast and Five Roses Unbleached Flour. The ingredients are simple - it truly is the method that makes the difference.

I will definitely make these again! And soon - there is only one left. And they are much better fresh!

knit girl afghan swap - square #5 received

This beautiful square was knit by jesshenshaw:

It is a garter and gull stitch pattern, and I am amazed because it is so tightly knit! And the stitches are so even and perfect!!

This is going to be an awesome afghan. The knitters in the group are really talented!

cobblestone socks

I started these socks way back in June as part of the For the Love of Socks KAL. It's my first time doing 2 socks at once using Magic Loop (one loooooong circular needle).

I love the yarn and the pattern is interesting, but it's just been slow going. I wasn't too motivated to knit wool socks in the summer! But when I took my mom to her doctor's appointments in July and August, I brought the socks with me and made some progress.

Only the foot to go! And then they'll BOTH be finished. No second-sock-syndrome.

Pattern: Menehune Cobblestone Socks by Adrienne Fong
Yarn: Fleece Artist Merino Sock 2/6 in Pinata
Needles: 2 mm metal circulars

Oh yes, I noticed that one sock is more pink than the other... oh well.

hello stranger

Yes, still alive! And knitting up a storm. I'm going to commit to posting more regularly... although I've decided that before and still didn't post regularly so it might not be successful. It's depressing to look at my own blog and see a month-old post staring at me!!!
